Tell me about a situation where you took extra steps to deliver more than what was expected

Situation:
In one of our projects, we were tasked to build an internal employee insights portal. The initial scope didn’t include accessibility or mobile responsiveness.

Task:
Although it wasn’t mandatory, I saw an opportunity to enhance the user experience and make the portal usable for all employees, including those using assistive technologies.

Action:
I implemented accessibility features (ARIA roles, keyboard navigation), improved responsive layouts using Flexbox and Grid, and optimized performance through lazy loading and image compression.

Result:
When demonstrated to leadership, they were impressed with the quality and accessibility improvements. The portal later became a model for other internal applications. My initiative earned me a “Spot Award” for exceptional contribution.
